This is a great quote that gives meaning to why some people who have tremendous physical attributes never make the impact on the sporting world that they are capable of. You can have tremendous ability but if you lack the motivation to continue to hone your craft and improve a bit each day, you won't ever achieve what you are capable of. Every year there are a number of tremendous athletes who demonstrate exceptional skills at the NFL combine rise up the draft lists and ultimately bust often because they are not motivated to play the sport. Often the most gifted athletes never had to work hard to be the best When they encounter the challenge of increased competition and are thrown into a pool with others who worked to develop their skills they don't have the work ethic to continue to compete. It is often the underdog who constantly had to fight for playing time and recognition that goes on to become a star. The same is true in every walk of life. Ability is necessary but not a guarantee of success. To win you need to have the courage , determination, and drive to continually learn and grow . Adopting the attitude of the underdog will enable you to make the most of what you have been given. Having the right mindset is the key to success in any endeavor.
