ROCKVILLE, Md. — Out of more than 1,000 health plans evaluated this year, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States’ Private and Medicare plans in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, all received the highest possible rating (5 out of 5) from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The organization’s Medicaid plans in Maryland and Virginia received the highest rating as well. According to the NCQA’s Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2018-19 national report, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States’ offerings are among the top 1 percent of plans in the nation as evaluated by NCQA’s rigorous review process.

With more than 1,500 primary and specialty care physicians available to them, Kaiser Permanente members have access to one of the largest medical groups in the region.

To increase access to Kaiser Permanente’s top-rated health care and coverage, the organization announced plans this month to open a new state-of-the-art medical center in Prince George’s County, Maryland, in 2020. Additionally, three new medical centers are planned to open in Northern Virginia in 2019, which will be in Alexandria, Stafford and Haymarket.
NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings are determined by careful analysis and review of combined scores for health plans in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, commonly called HEDIS®; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or CAHPS®; and NCQA Accreditation standards. NCQA’s ratings and measures are issued annually and offer consumers additional indicators of quality and performance as they consider purchasing health insurance.
