We live today in a world dominated by the need for instant gratification. We can look up anything we want on our cell phones which are immediately accessible. We have many more options for entertainment available to us and countless outlets where we can spend our time. We also have access to people around the world resulting in acquaintances but fewer intimate friends. In many regards patience has become a lost art as a result. If we can't contact someone via face to face contact we leave them a text or a voice mail to which we expect a rapid response. The need for instant rewards extends to initiatives we undertake. If we encounter obstacles we move on to another task rather than fighting our way through the challenge. It is easier to move on and tackle another easier task than continue to struggle with a difficult one that tests our mettle. Our distaste for failure is so strong that once blocked we choose another path rather than taking the time to clear the path we are currently on. Rarely does success come to someone who hasn't failed multiple times. It comes instead to those who persist despite the challenges. The race does not always go to the swift but rather those who stay the course despite the difficulties. Adding a good measure of patience and the persistence to keep at it when others would walk away can pay huge dividends in your effort to succeed.
