"You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore. William Faulkner
Courage is one of the key characteristics that separates successful people from those who wish they were successful. A leader must have the courage to make difficult decisions and to accept the results of their actions. Leaders never leave the site of a decision without taking action to accomplish what they decided to pursue. The decisions are often difficult and uncomfortable because of incomplete information therefore courage is required to face an uncertain result. Leaders move forward, build momentum and have the mindset to accept the consequences of their decisions. All decisions will not result in successful conclusions but the leader accepts accountability, owns the consequences and adjusts course to continue moving forward. All of us can learn to be courageous. It begins with making small decisions, implementing them and developing the self confidence that comes with successful conclusions. The fear of the unknown prevents certainty at the point of the decision but we learn over time that if we are willing to take uncomfortable action we can achieve what we envisioned when we made the decision.
